The social media images and copy shown above were generated using Midjourney and ChatGPT, with some minor adjustments made by me. From idea generation to final delivery, the project took me just one night to complete, with a cost of only $10 USD for a MidJourney subscription fee and my own time invested. What's even more valuable is that I own the copyright for all the visual materials.

That being said, I would like to highlight what ChatGPT and Midjourney excel at currently, as well as their limitations in creative content creation, using this project as an example. Additionally, I will discuss potential failures when using AI generation tools and how they may shape the future of agencies and artists.

Can-Dos:
Brainstorming: 9/10
Topic Research: 7.5/10
Copywriting: 7/10
Strategy Making: 3/10

Can-Dos:

One thing ChatGPT is great at is making repetitive copywriting tasks an easy task. For example, it can create multi-lingual product descriptions for e-commerce platforms, write SEO articles, and social media copies for events and campaigns. ChatGPT can also help with research by providing topic lists, which can save creative content creators hours in research and idea generation. Additionally, ChatGPT can even suggest the best channels to promote an event, product, or a new business, although the answer may be quite general.

When it comes to image generation for brainstorming, Midjourney can generate content ideas based on its database, suggest alternative versions of content to test, and offer real-time feedback on the effectiveness of content. It is a powerful tool to build a mood board with incredible details and variations, especially in presenting visual ideas to clients in the beginning stages of content development and when looking for feedback.

Variation

Upscale

Midjourney is a tool designed to help generate ideas for businesses and startups in various industries, such as entertainment, fashion and design. It can be particularly useful for industries that are experiencing growth and are open to innovation, such as technology, healthcare, finance, retail, and education.

Can't-Dos:

However, it's worth noting that AI so far is just a tool, and the success of an idea ultimately depends on many factors, including the quality of the idea, the execution, the market demand, and the competition. Therefore, it's essential to conduct thorough research and validation before investing time and resources into any idea generated by the tool.

While Midjourney is designed to help generate new ideas, it has limitations in terms of creativity. The tool relies on pre-existing data and patterns to generate ideas, which may limit its ability to come up with truly unique or groundbreaking concepts. When making a variation in Midjourney, the result is random. Even Midjourney sometimes is able to generate something very close to the final product, it will still requires human interference to making minor changes for the design.

ChatGPT and Midjourny can generally help with the research and brainstorming part of a campaign, but the planning, executing, and delivery is still heavily rely on human team members.

Watch out:

If the internet is the 2.0 version of our society, then AI generation tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney represent the 3.0 version. Unfortunately, all the biases and stereotypes from the real world are often amplified on the internet due to anonymity, confirmation bias, and echo chambers. Since ChatGPT and Midjourney's databases primarily source information from the vast expanse of the internet, they can inherit biases and false information.

ChatGPT relies on the data it was trained on, which may contain errors or inaccuracies. Therefore, it's important to verify any information or advice provided by the model with multiple sources. While ChatGPT is excellent at generating text based on the input it receives, it lacks common sense and real-world context. As a result, it may provide responses that are irrelevant or inaccurate in certain contexts.

Midjourney is not exempt from bias, and it is often amplified by factors such as race, gender, and culture. For example, if you simply type in the prompt "working professional," Midjourney is very likely to provide photos of white males in suits working in an office. However, if you type in "South Asian female, working professional, office," you are more likely to receive diverse results.

So far, Midjourney has improved significantly in generating realistic images of people across race, gender, and culture when generating images of a single subject. However, when it comes to generating images of multiple characters from different races, Midjourney's performance is still far from expectations.

Midjourney prompt: Stunning_Black_girl_handsome_Asian_boy_tropical_forest_animal

In this photo Midjourney is able to generate forest background, but mistakenly generates animals that don't belongs to the tropical forest. In 3/4 photos it successfully generate photos that contains a Black girl, but non of them also contains an Asian boy.

Despite Midjourney's advancements in generating diverse images, there are still limitations and biases present in the tool. As with any AI-generated content, it is important to carefully review and verify the output to ensure accuracy and fairness.

conclusion:

The release of ChatGPT caused panic among marketing and advertisement professionals due to its accuracy in grammar, conversation logic, and efficiency. However, ChatGPT and Midhourney remain valuable tools that make content creators' work easier and provide more options to accelerate the process.

For agencies and companies:

Using these tools properly is akin to having an entry-level copywriter, coder, chatbot, and concept artist. Although machine learning surpasses human capacity by a significant margin in terms of speed, but critical thinking, ethical concerns, and corrections can only be made by humans.

Rather than using AI interns in your business, consider training your human staff to cooperate with AIs in their daily job for increased efficiency and better results. When AI takes care of the mundane part of the job, human staff can spend more time on strategy making, creativity, and learning new trends and tools.

For artist and freelancers:

AI can not create, it only fill-in the details of your imagination. Therefore, it is essential to keep developing and honing your artistic skills, as well as staying up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies. AI can serve as a helpful tool for artists and freelancers, by assisting in tasks such as help writing your CV or generating basic outlines, but it should not replace the creativity and uniqueness that only a human can bring to a project. By using AI as a complementary tool, artists and freelancers can streamline their workflow and produce higher quality work in a shorter amount of time.
